For years, families and people of all ages have made this journey to seek blessings and see the amazing mountain views. This guide will give you all the simple and clear information you need to plan your trip for the 2025-2026 season.

What is the Char Dham Yatra?

The Char Dham Yatra is one of India’s most important and sacred pilgrimages, located high in the Garhwal Himalayas of Uttarakhand. The word “Char Dham” means “four abodes,” and the Yatra is a holy journey to four sacred sites: Yamunotri, dedicated to the Goddess Yamuna; Gangotri, dedicated to the Goddess Ganga; Kedarnath, the abode of Lord Shiva; and Badrinath, the abode of Lord Vishnu. Following this specific route, millions of devotees undertake this journey every year to seek divine blessings, cleanse their sins, and take a step towards attaining ‘moksha’ (liberation). It is a profound journey of faith combined with the breathtaking natural beauty of the mountains.

How to Plan Your Char Dham Yatra

Good planning makes the trip smooth and happy. Here’s what you need to know.

When is the Best Time to Go?

The temples are open for about six months a year. The best times to visit are:

    • Summer (May to June): The weather is nice and sunny. This is the most popular time.

    • Autumn (September to October): After the rains, the mountains are green and beautiful, and it’s less crowded.

(A note for right now: It’s late July 2025, which is monsoon season. Travel can be difficult due to rain. It’s a great time to plan your trip for the clear weather in September-October or for next year!)
